Did he say that he was God ?
In the old testament God called himself “I am”
When Moses was speaking to God he asked God a question, Who should I say sent me.
God said “tell them I am sent you”
I am was the name God used.
Now as we skip to the New Testament, Jesus was speaking to the religious leaders of the day and he said
“Very truly I tell you” Jesus answered “Before Abraham was born, I am!
Jesus called himself I am.
Jesus was saying he was God in the same way that God called himself I am in the Old testament.
This made the religious so angry they were ready to pick up stones and stone him.
Jesus was saying that he was God and the religious said that this was blasphemy.
When Jesus said I am, he knew exactly what he was saying and he also knew what the religious leaders would think.
Jesus said that he was God, Jesus knew that he was God.
We should worship him today as God.
Because he is the son who came down to earth as a baby to die on the cross for our sins.
Jesus, God's son.
