At the heart of the old town of Bethlehem, a school writing icons is working to revive the ancient art that was rooted in the fourth and fifth centuries AD in an attempt to re-submit this art as part of the culture of the Christians of Palestine.
Featuring icons for other technical institutes, the school in the city of Bethlehem being the center has the ability to develop the spirit of humility and stay away from selfishness, where the work is done by students in accordance dedicated to the Lord in the first degree.
The school also is trying to move from an environment where students abound in foreign worldly temptations- where a person is immersed in his selfishness- to an environment where his or her mentality and his or her life through prayer and work for a life dedicated to God.
A key element that must be contained in the icons is calm and quiet and tranquility., an element which devoids any worker to distract attention. Icons writer seeks through this element to inspire and nourish his or her faith and the faith of the person who reveres the Lord.
The aim of the school is not only to master the work and writing of icons, but also keen on the definition of its students on the stages of the emergence of this art and its evolution through the centuries, through holding weekly lectures covering specific points in time.
Icons School is the only school in the Middle East that teaches this ancient art, which saw its birth with the advent of ascetic monks in the desert in the fourth and fifth centuries AD. They were writing icons to learn responsibility and the joy of giving- and the Palestinian monks where she was and still is, is a way to give thanks and respect to the Lord."
